Girl Guides Singapore's (GGS) biennial carnival dawned bright and sunny over the Guide House in Bishan last June. The carnival was officially opened by the Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Education.
There were muffins, candy floss, popcorn and fish balls to be eaten, fondue to be dipped, books, bags and clothes to be snapped up at bargain prices, soft toys to be won from challenging games, and countless other merchandise painstakingly put together by the Brownies, Guides and the Adult Leaders alike.
For the first time ever, it was held in the Guide House. Also in line with the WAGGGS Global Action Theme of girls worldwide say "together we can change our world", efforts were taken to reduce environmental damage through the usage of biodegradable utensils and a rationing system to ensure there was no wastage. Lastly, the carnival was planned and executed largely by the young adults with the invaluable guidance of the Chief Commissioner and the Training Commissioner, amongst many others.
