16 Days: Safe Europe i - Day 6

During 16 Days 29 European participants will be coming to Antwerp, Belgium to develop action plans to deliver Stop the Violence campaigns in their own associations. The particpants aim to create safe spaces throughout Europe.

Violence in Europe

• Violence affects 45% of all women across Europe
• An estimated one-fifth of women in the EU suffer from violence within the home
• One person in four responding to an EU study knows a woman among friends or family who is a victim of domestic violence
• Seven women die every day from domestic violence in the EU 

These are shocking statistics.  And this is why the European Women’s Lobby is calling for an European Year to End Violence against Women and Girls.  EU Years are key opportunities to involve all actors in discussing a specific issue, and through a European Year focusing on violence against women, the EU would play a leading role in raising awareness and propose concrete measures to take action. 

The European Women’s Lobby has now launched an online petition calling for such a year to be established as soon as possible.  

 What can you do? 

 Through our campaign “Stop the Violence: Speak Out for Girls Rights” Girl Guides and Girl Scouts are already taking action and the Europe Region WAGGGS is part of the European Coalition asking for such a year.  We are asking you to add your voice to the European Women’s Lobby campaign in the following ways:
