Violence email footerTo mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based violence, Say NO-UNiTE launched COMIT.

This new initiative asks governments across the world to make national commitments to end violence against women and girls.

Over 603 million women and girls live in countries where domestic violence is still not legally considered a crime. Governments must take action to address this. Check out COMIT and see what action your government has announced it will take.

If your government has yet to make an announcement on gender-based violence, you should consider lobbying your government directly to encourage and demand that they make a public announcement to demonstrate their commitment to tackling gender-based violence.

I am often asked whether ending violence against women is possible given the pervasiveness and persistence of these crimes. My answer is yes. It is possible. But we can only do it together. We are all responsible and it is time for leaders to fulfil the promises made to women.

Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director on UN Women.

What changes do you want to see in your country? What commitment do you want your national government to make? The WAGGGS Advocacy toolkit can help you plan your lobbying actions. Also look out for the upcoming Stop the Violence Campaign Action Plan toolkit (which will be launched during 16 Days). This toolkit will assist you in tackling violence against girls in your own national and local contexts.
