The gift of a future 

Without money from legacies we couldn’t maintain and develop our work. Without this money we are unable to start new projects, denying young women in those areas the chances and choices we can offer them. Please remember Girl Guides/Girl Scouts and The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts when writing your will or updating an existing one.

The gift from a legacy can give a young woman a future to look forward to; a future she may not have thought she could ever have. 

Why should I make a will? 

It is essential to make a will. If you die ’intestate’, that is without making a will, your family may suffer unnecessary hardship after your death. Seven out of ten people in the UK die without making a will. If you, rather than the Inland Revenue, want to decide how your estate is divided up, then draw up a will. A solicitor or professional adviser can help. Usually it’s not difficult and can be done quite cheaply.... and making a will won’t make you die the next day. 

Making changes to your will 

If you want to make a minor change to your will - such as adding a legacy - your solicitor or professional adviser will help you to draw up a codicil, a separate legal document. A change in your personal circumstances, such as if you marry, divorce or have children, should prompt you to check and update your will.
