Today’s girls are tomorrow’s future

WAGGGS is a major supporter of International Women’s Day, held on 8 March, which celebrates the achievements of women around the world. This day is observed globally through a range of events in acknowledgment of the contribution women make at all levels of society.

This year we want to remind the world that every girl and young woman has the right to achieve her potential.

As part of our International Women’s Day activities, WAGGGS’ newly appointed CEO, Mary Mc Phail spoke on the topic of “Today’s girls, tomorrow’s future” at the UK’s Aurora network celebrations.

Today’s girls are tomorrow’s future, and it is our responsibility to equip them to be tomorrow’s leaders. WAGGGS provides girls in 144 member countries with leadership and life skills through self-development, challenge and adventure.

International Women’s Day provides us with an opportunity to honour and celebrate the achievements of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from all over the world.

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts achieve

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting empowers girls and young women to aim high. All around the world you can find former Girl Guides and Girl Scouts who have used their skills and experience to excel in different areas. Actress Emma Thompson and singer Björk are two examples of this. Read their amazing stories.

You can also read about the impact of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting on the lives of five young women, one from each region.

What about you?

We would like you to share your Guiding story with the world. We would like you to tell others about great women you know in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting. Use the comment section below to tell everybody about a Girl Guide or Girl Scout that has inspired you or write about your personal Guiding story.

You can also put your name on our database of young women. Young women on this database will be kept up to date about WAGGGS’ activities, you will be asked to take part in discussions and you may be asked to represent WAGGGS at events.
