Description
When: July 2008
Where: Johannesburg, South Africa
The aim of this workshop was to share with the participants our experience of awareness-raising and advocacy on the right to food, nutrition and healthy food choices.
We used such tools as a short introductory video on the human right to food, a powerpoint presentation of FAO/WAGGGS activities and projects, group work and discussions. We also role-played a cartoon book story and played some games from the activity guide. At the end of the workshop participants received a copy of the cartoon book “The right to food: a window on the world” and other FAO/WAGGGS materials.
Achievements
Our team has recently joined forces with FAO to educate girls and young women about climate change. The new project is called “Our World, Our Climate, Our Food” and is developing a series of educational materials on climate and food security. The logo and illustrations for these resources are drawn by children who are taking part in the drawing competition. This new initiative was also presented during the workshop in Johannesburg.
Advice
You can make a difference through informing, encouraging participation and showing girls and young women that they have an important role to play in achieving a world free from hunger.
