Succession Planning

Contact

Guides Catholiques de Belgique (Belgium)

Description

The organization put a succession planning process in place. This included:
- a recruitment procedure
- guidelines for recruiting specific functions such as profile, where to find candidates and when to contact them.
- Job Descriptions split into requirements and advantages and including main responsabilities, time involved and tools & resources
- A user guide of adult resources explaining expected challenges and where to find information

Achievements

The election process is working well. There is a period of six months of joint work where new team shadows the old team. Overlapping terms of service mean there are always some experienced members sitting on the committee while new members become accustomed to the role.

Challenges

Such a policy requires much forward planning. Finding the right candidate will be even harder if you have not been nuturing the talented leaders of the future.

Advice

Our biggest learning was not only to rely on procedures & tools. The best tool is worth nothing if it is not used!
