The Olympia Badge was originally designed by Soma Hellinikou Odigismou (The Greek Girl Guides Association) to remind people of the original purpose of the Olympic Games and to mark its return home to Athens in 2004.
It was launched in conjunction with the Triennial Theme ‘Our Rights, Our Responsibilities’ and over 25,000 badges were distributed to successful participants.
We hope that the badge will encourage girls and young women to improve their knowledge of sports, support the ideal of women as peacemakers and promote intercultural understanding. It was launched in conjunction with the Triennial Theme ‘Our Rights, Our Responsibilities’ and over 25,000 badges were distributed to successful participants.
In response to requests from our members, we have now added a special appendix of activities suitable for Rainbows (age 5-7years). You can find this document in the Related Documents section on this page.

During the summer term 3rd. Haywards Heath Brownies really enjoyed Chinese and Olympic themed activities. We learnt about the willow pattern and painted our own plates in blue designs, we made chinese dragons, fortune cookies and tangram pictures. Our own Olympic games started with a parade and saying the olympic oath. We then had events such as paper plate discus, cardboard tube javelin and beanbag shotput, to name but a few, ending in a grand medal and badge ceremony. Brilliant fun for all.

We had a really fun time today when our troop had an all day Olympic event! We used the low Balance Beam, played an Olympic Ring game and learnt lots of facts about the Olympics and China! We earned our Gold Olympia Badge and certificates plus medals!

1st Corpusty & Saxthorpe Brownies had fun learning about China and the Olympics. We all went for silver since we had to buy the badges in batches of 10. It would have been nice to be able to award different awards.

We started working on the Olympia Gold Level badge a few weeks ago during guide meetings and the girls are quite enthusiastic about it!! last week we worked on the tangrams. The girls stuck the shapes on colourful cardboard and then coloured in the shapes to give it more life! We had some interesting results...

The badge has been a great success. The girls enjoyed writing in Chinese.
It is a shame that I could only buy badges in packs of 10. There are only 9 in my unit. 6 acheived gold and 3 acheived bronze.

The Brownies have had a lot of fun working towards this badge. The 3 levels have really inserted some competetion into the girls with some acheiving the Bronze but all aiming for the Gold. They have really enjoyed learning about the olympics and trying new sports / activities out. A great badge syllabus - thanks.
