We are delighted to launch the new version of the Olympia Badge for this Olympic year, 2008. The aim of the badge is promote the WAGGGS message to ’discover your potential’ in many different ways, including sport. To celebrate the fact that the Games of the XXIX Olympiad will be held in Beijing in 2008, Hong Kong Girl Guides Association has been working with WAGGGS to bring you the new Olympia Badge with a Chinese flavour.
If you are a member of Girl Scouts USA or Girlguiding UK, please note that all free badges have now been allocated.
Badges will be available for purchase from Our Shop on this website in May. They will cost 40pence each plus P&P and will be sold in packs of ten.
The Olympia Badge was originally designed by Soma Hellinikou Odigismou (The Greek Girl Guides Association) to remind people of the original purpose of the Olympic Games and to mark its return home to Athens in 2004.
It was launched in conjunction with the Triennial Theme ‘Our Rights, Our Responsibilities’ and over 25,000 badges were distributed to successful participants.
We hope that the badge will encourage girls and young women to improve their knowledge of sports, support the ideal of women as peacemakers and promote intercultural understanding. It was launched in conjunction with the Triennial Theme ‘Our Rights, Our Responsibilities’ and over 25,000 badges were distributed to successful participants.
In response to requests from our members, we have now added a special appendix of activities suitable for Rainbows (age 5-7years). You can find this document in the Related Documents section on this page.

I am wondering why Rainbows have been completely excluded. With little or no modification they too could complete the activities. It is unfair that they miss out on gaining this badge if it is open to all other sections.

WAGGGS responds:
The syllabus was based on the original Olympia Badge which had activities for Brownies, Guides and Rangers only. However, we recognise that the Badge should be available to all girls so we will be adapting some of the activities so that Rainbows can join in. Look out for the special Rainbows activities on the website soon!
