6 August 2008 Global launch for HIV and AIDS resource
The WAGGGS training toolkit on HIV and AIDS made its global debut at AIDS 2008 in Mexico City. The WAGGGS conference delegation includes young women from five Member Organizations whose work inspired the development of the toolkit.
31 July 2008 More volunteer opportunities
Results from the WAGGGS online global survey exploring volunteering reveal that 40 per cent of the 2,605 respondents would like Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to organize more volunteer opportunities, volunteer training and greater recognition for volunteer efforts.
24 July 2008 Welcome to our new members!
Burundi, Chad, Dominica, Hungary, Malawi and Russia were accepted as Full Members of WAGGGS during the 33rd World Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Also, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lithuania and Syria were accepted as Associate Members of WAGGGS. Samoa and Vanuatu are no longer members. The World Association now has 145 Member Organizations.
22 July 2008 Drawing competition on climate and food
WAGGGS and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invite girls and young women from 6 to 20 years old to participate in the International Drawing Competition “Our World, Our Climate, Our Food”. The aim is to design a logo which will be used on posters, publications, T-shirts and activity badges.
11 July 2008 33rd World Conference concludes
The 33rd World Conference has concluded. Delegates go back home with many good memories, plenty of new friends and array of fresh ideas. The new Chairman, Margaret Treloar, summed up the spirit of the Conference with the words: Nobody can do everything. 11 July 2008 UK will host the 34th World Conference
The 34th World Conference in 2011 will be held in Edinburgh, in the UK. When the bid was announced at the end of the voting session this morning, Malaysia, the other bidder, congratulated them on their success.
10 July 2008 New Chairman and Deputy Chairman announced
Margaret Treloar has been elected as the new Chairman of the World Board and Linden Edgell as the new Deputy Chairman.
10 July 2008 WAGGGS Silver medal for Elspeth
The outgoing Chairman of the World Board, Elspeth Henderson, received this Thursday WAGGGS Silver medal for her extraordinary service to WAGGGS and to Girl Guides and Girl Scouts throughout the world.
10 July 2008 New World Board members
Camilla Lindquist (Sweden); Sapreet Saluja (USA); Nadine El Achy (Lebanon); Wamuyu Mahinda (Kenya); Zahara Mavani (Pakistan) and Gabriela Derosa (Argentina) are the six new World Board members elected today at the 33rd World Conference.
10 July 2008 UK and Malaysia present their bids
Persatuan Pandu Puteri, Malaysia and Girlguiding UK made impressive presentations in their bids to host the 34th World Conference in 2011 this morning. Delegates have now time to make their choice before the voting on Friday.
