33rd World Conference concludes

The 33rd World Conference concluded this Friday after five days of plenary meeting, learning sessions, workshops and spectacular events. 

Delegates voted on a number of motions and amendments during the last day of the Conference. The Strategic Plan and the Financial Budget for 2009-2011 were accepted.

Chairman’s speech

The new Chairman, Margaret Treloar, in her final speech, said: “During these days in which we have been working together, I have felt that, across WAGGGS, there has been great progress made towards achieving our Vision for 2011. I hope you feel the same way!

About the Conference, the new Chairman said: “We have had opportunities to hear about innovative approaches to challenges facing girls and young women as well as challenges with which our Member Organizations are dealing. At every level, we are continuing to focus on how to provide new and more opportunities for girls and young women to develop, to realize their dreams, to make a difference to issues they care about.”

Margaret concluded her speech with a thought that the GGASA service team shared during this week’s reflections. “Nobody can do everything. But everyone can do something. girls worldwide say “Together we can change our world

During the closing ceremony, the outgoing Chairman, Elspeth Henderson handed to Margaret a special World Board pin. It was made in Scotland by the former Chairman, Kirsty Gray. She had given it to Elspeth at the 32nd World Conference in Jordan.

Delegates showed tremendous expressions of gratitude to Girl Guides Association of South Africa for their brilliant work during the Conference.
