World Centre Peace Cards ready to send

18 September 2007

The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) calls all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world to join International Peace Day celebrations. International Peace Day, first celebrated by the UN in 1981, is held every year on 21 September.

One way to celebrate this global day of non-violence and ceasefire is to send a peace message to friends, family and colleagues. Each of the four WAGGGS World Centres, Our Chalet in Switzerland, Our Cabaña in Mexico, Pax Lodge in the UK and Sangam in India have designed a Peace Card for you to use. Each card has been designed especially for Peace Day 2007 and features an individual design that expresses the character of each of the World Centres.

The Peace Cards can be downloaded from the WAGGGS Peace Day page. They can be printed out and sent by post or used as attachment to an email together with a personal Peace message.

Sending a Peace Card to people you know and care about helps to get the message of peace and understanding of all people around the world heard in public. You can also send a peace message to people in decision-making positions such as political leaders, opinion formers or public figures. More ideas on how to raise public awareness with an advocacy campaign are outlined in WAGGGS our voice section.

The WAGGGS Peace Day website also provides ten more great ideas about how to celebrate International Peace Day.

Don’t forget to let WAGGGS know about your activities. Send pictures and information to bernadette.fischler@wagggsworld.org and they may be published on the WAGGGS website.
