Chilean Guides and Scouts support earthquake relief effort
5 March 2010
The Guides and Scouts Association of Chile has been actively supporting relief efforts after the devastating earthquake that hit Chile on 27 February. Members and volunteers have been helping on a number of fronts, including clearing up, food distribution and first aid.
In coordination with the National Office of Emergencies, the Guides and Scouts Association of Chile have been working since the earthquake in removing debris, assisting those affected and packing and distributing emergency food and clothing.
The epicenter of the 8.8 strong earthquake was in Constitución, located in Region del Bío-Bío, approximately 600 kilometers (400 miles) south of Santiago. It affected more than one third of the country’s territory. Many Guides and Scouts live in the area and the Association is still attempting to contact many of its members.
The Chilean Association is very grateful for the countless e-mail messages and phone calls of support and encouragement they have been receiving in these difficult times, as well as the condolences for those who have lost their lives. If you would like to send your message to the Association directly, please email pvaldivia@guiasyscoutschile.cl or use the message board below.
| If you would like to support the disaster relief effort in Chile, we recommend you work through emergency aid organizations in your own countries. If you would like to know how you can help the Chilean Guides and Scouts specifically, please do get in touch with them directly by emailing pvaldivia@guiasyscoutschile.cl . |
