TUNZA International Conference

The conference had a segment for 750 children aged 10 to 14 and their chaperones from 17 to 20 August and a segment for 200 young people aged 15 to 24 from 20 to 25 August.
WAGGGS is a NGO partner of TUNZA which is coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The word “TUNZA” means “to treat with care or affection” in Kiswahili (a sub-regional language of Eastern Africa).
TUNZA is an initiative for children and young people to develop activities in the areas of capacity building, environmental awareness, and information exchange, with a vision to foster a generation of environmentally conscious citizens, capable of positive action.
TUNZA International CHILDREN’s conference
The Tunza International Children’s Conference took place from 17 to 20 August 2009 under the theme ‘Our Climate: Our Challenge’. TUNZA International YOUTH Conference
The TUNZA International Youth Conference took place from 20 to 25 August under the theme ‘Climate Change- Our Challenge’. More than 200 young people aged 15 to 24 attended the event.
