FAO/WAGGGS drawing competition winner announced

4 February 2009

Sixteen year-old Chan Hiu Wing from Hong Kong has won the International Drawing Competition: ‘Our World, Our Climate, Our food’ organized by the WAGGGS UN team in Rome and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Hiu Wing’s drawing (pictured right) will become the logo for the ’Our World, Our Climate, Our Food’ youth education project. It was chosen from amongst 1,400 submissions from 46 countries. Of those, more than 200 were Guides and Scouts from about 20 countries.

The artwork we received was of a very high standard and demonstrated great understanding of the issues of climate change and food security. We would like to thank all the entrants and encourage them to keep up the great work in spreading the word about these important issues,” says Masha Volodina from the WAGGGS UN team in Rome.

Judges included a selection of drawings of "special merit" to highlight the impressive and imaginative work that has been submitted.

Hiu Wing has been invited to FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, to see how her drawing will be used.

Full results of the logo competition can be viewed at the FAO website. The winners of each age group (6-10, 11-15 and 16-20 years-old), will be contacted by FAO staff. All the drawings are online for you to view and share with friends.
This competition was part of the joint FAO/WAGGGS youth education project, which aims to raise awareness among children and young people about climate change, environment and food security. The initiative was undertaken with the support of the Government of Sweden.

A new competition will be announced soon so keep checking this website!
