Say NO to Violence against Women

One out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her. Because of this situation, WAGGGS is a launch partner of the UNIFEM campaign say NO to violence against women.

More than 500,000 individuals have added their names already to UNIFEM to be counted in the Say NO to Violence against Women campaign.

The 25 November challenge…

… is to deliver one million names to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 25 November 2008, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Nicole Kidman, UNIFEM goodwill ambassador, has sent a special message to all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide calling everybody to join the campaign on www.saynotoviolence.org

What you can do

WAGGGS calls Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world to meet the 25 November challenge and help break the silence to give voice to women and girls who have experienced violence.

It is important to demonstrate broad-based international support to make ending violence against women a top priority.

As a Network of Scouts and Guides, all belonging to WOSM/WAGGGS, we share the fantastic experience of equality between men and women... Reason why we support this campaign and give it special attention on our website.
