The Stand Up campaign is a mass mobilisation of civil society organised by the Millennium Campaign in order to hold world leaders accountable for the promises they made to halve extreme poverty by 2015. WAGGGS encourages everyone to join hands and Stand Up on 17th- 19th of September to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
This is just before world leaders arrive at the UN MDG + 10 Summit in New York. These Heads of State will meet at the United Nations headquarters to review the successes, to learn from the failures, and to discuss the launch of detailed plans on how to ensure the attainment of the MDGs by 2015. It will be a great opportunity to call for the collective action and efforts needed to meet the MDGs by the 2015.
The Millennium Campaign plans present its demands to the world leaders as part of the Stand Up events.
You can take part by joining hands and standing up on the 17th, 18th or 19th of September. You can also do service or an educational activities to help other people learn about the Millennium Development Goals:
