Young Woman of the Region Award

This new award recognises the outstanding achievements of young women within Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting.

The award will be presented to a young woman aged between 18 and 30 years old who has significantly contributed to Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting, is a strong role model for other girls and young women, is recognized at national level for service to her community and has a leadership position in her community.

Five young women were presented with the Award at the WAGGGS Regional Conferences in 2004 and played a key role in the WAGGGS World Conference in Amman, Jordan in June 2005.

  • Nicola Grinstead from Girlguiding UK was presented with
    the first Young Woman of the Region Award at the 11th European Guide Conference in Iceland in April 2004.
I am really thrilled to have received this award and feel very proud that I have been able to make a small contribution to the work of WAGGGS internationally,
says Nicola.
  • Kathryn Roa from the Girl Scouts of the Philippines was
    presented with the first Young Woman of the Region Award
    for the Asia Pacific Region in Hong Kong in May 2004.
We are all born special but how we use our lives for
service and community development will be what make us
extraordinary,
 said Kathryn on receiving her award
  • Egypt’s Rania Abu Zeid received the Young Woman of the
    Region Award for the Arab region

  • Catherine Nakazibwe from Uganda was presented with the
    Young Woman of the Region Award for Africa

  • Peru’s Lucía Piñeiro Gastañeta received the Western
    Hemisphere’s Young Woman of the Region Award
