World Board

WAGGGS is governed by a World Board, made up of 17 active Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting members from around the world who are democratically elected by all Member Organizations at the World Conference. Each region elects a Chairman at their Regional Conference every three years and the five Chairmen also sit on the World Board.

The six new World Board members elected at the 33rd World Conference in South Africa were (in order of election):Camilla Lindquist (Sweden); Sapreet Saluja (USA);Nadine El Achy (Lebanon);Wamuyu Mahinda (Kenya);Zahara Mavani (Pakistan);Gabriela Derosa (Argentina).

Substitutes members are: Eugenia Mbekeni (South Africa) and Cristina L. Yuson (Philippines).

The other members of the Board are: Rehana Banoo, June Cameron, Fabiola Canavesi, Linden Edgell, Essia Fathallah, Liesbeth Lijnzaad, María Elena Murillo, Mary Mc Phail, Lucía Piñeiro, Della Salway, Marie-Anne Tofani Fofana and Margaret Treloar. 

World Board members are elected for two three year terms which means that at each World Conference, six new members join and six members leave.

Margaret Treloar has been elected as the new Chairman of the World Board and Linden Edgell as the new Deputy Chairman. WAGGGS’ Chief Executive, Mary Mc Phail serves in an ex-officio capacity.

Margaret, Linden and Mary are entitled to sit on any of the WAGGGS’ committees and groups in an ex-officio capacity.
