Arab African Youth Forum
More than 50 young women participated in the first joint Youth Forum organized by the Arab Region and the Africa Region. A news update appears on the left-hand menu so look out for news and photos and participate. This exciting event, with the theme ‘Take the lead’, promoted leadership among young women in both regions.
The forum took place in Cairo from 15 September 2006 to 21 September 2006 and the Hotel Sheraton Cairo hosted it.
Young women from the Africa and Arab Region came together to learn more about each other and their cultures and as well as to learn essential leadership skills.
Participants had the chance to discuss and learn about intercultural learning and exchange, adolescent health or about becoming a peace ambassador. The programme also included a visit to the Pyramids and the famous Khan el Khalili market.
Participants enjoyed an International Night, where they shared food from their countries with the delegates.

I was represented my country, Ghana. It was such a marvellous event. I really learnt a lot which I am putting into practice. I really enjoyed all the teaching materials which were practical. More of such programmes should be organized. My warmest appreciation to WAGGGS.

The arab african youth forum was the "BOMB" I must say. It was so educative, I learnt a lot from it. The sessions were well cut out, the people I met were very nice and cultured, above all, the planning team did a great job. More than words to describe the forum, it was an experience I will live to remember for the rest of my life. I really enjoyed myself.

I'm glad I got the opportunity to attend the forum and get the experiences of our planning team. I also got to make a lot of friends and learn about different cultures.

I have learnt a lot about WAGGGS, and also how to make meetings more interesting. I have also learnt about other cultures.

It has been a great eye opener, especially with regards to WAGGGS and what other countries are doing and has given us a lot of ideas as to what I can do back home. I feel so motivated now. It’s just great.

Hi. My name is Nadia from Benghazi Libya. I was one of the girls that participated in this forum and I want to share my experience with you. It was a wonderful forum and it helped me to get useful information that will improve my skills in life and leadership. It was also a wonderful opportunity to meet new and interesting colleagues and share knowledge of each others’ traditions such as food, dress, customs and habits. We also shared very useful information on different Girl Guide Projects and activities which are so interesting and exciting for us all.
I sincerely hope that I have such a wonderful opportunity to meet all these colleagues again in the not too distant future.
Yours sincerely,
NADIA EL ORFI

Hi to you all! I hope that you have a fun and worthwhile time together this week, with lots of great ideas to share with each other and the WORLD. I'm hope to hear all about it at the Board meeting next week.
One question for you - which woman has most inspired you as being a great role model and why?

Greetings to you all. I know that you will have wonderful experiences while you work, learn and have fun together at the forum. WAGGGS needs young women like you to "take the lead" as we look to the future. The World Board is meeting at the end of this week in London and I know that we will be inspired by what you achieve, both personally and as a group, during your time in Cairo.

Chairman, World Board
