Hunger and poverty related events and seminars

WAGGGS key messages at global events include:

  • Support Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to get involved in the fight against hunger and malnutrition and provide materials and badges to motivate members
  • Alleviate the constraints faced by women in accessing food and ensuring genderresponsive interventions to improve household food security and nutrition
  • Involve girls and young women in planning and the provision of programmes that affect their food security
  • Ensure that girls and women have the knowledge, skills, opportunities and resources to produce their own food or to earn income to buy it

Girl Scouts of Korea- Cooking Korean food

On 16 October every year the world celebrates World Food Day. The 2010 theme is ‘united against hunger’. WAGGGS’ UN team in Rome is actively involved in the celebration at FAO headquarters. See how you can get involved!

Pakistan Girl Guides Association -Stand up 2010

On 20-22 September 2010 the UN hosts a special summit to review the progress on the MDG. WAGGGS contributed to advocacy efforts like the stand up campaign running up to the event and actively lobbied important documents that will inform the MDG summit to ensure that girls and young women are put at the centre of all efforts

World Youth Conference- Voting

The World Youth Conference took place from 23 to 29 August 2010 in Mexico to identify priorities of action for youth on the international development agenda. WAGGGS delegates contributed to the discussions on the NGO position statement and run activities in the Global Interactive Forum. 

Centenary celebrations- FAO Rome

 

The WAGGGS’ UN team in Rome planted a pomegranate tree to raise awareness on MDG1 during the centenary celebrations.
