Upcoming events

The UN Climate Change Conference COP 17 will take place in Durban, South Africa, in November/December 2011. WAGGGS will be attending this important annual UN Conference with a youth delegation. The applications will be available on the WAGGGS website end of August 2011. In the meantime have a look at the official conference website and find out what the WAGGGS youth delegates were up to at COP 16 in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010.

Earth Summit 2012 'Rio plus 20', held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012, will be the fourth Summit of its kind and represents another milestone in ongoing international efforts to accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development globally. WAGGGS will attend with a youth delegation and applications will be available early 2012 on the WAGGGS website.

The Girls World Forum 2012 follows on from the two Young Women's World Forums 2010 and 2011. It will take place in Chicago, USA, in 2012 and will focus on three UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), including MDG 7 on environmental sustainability. COP 16 logoThe 16th Conference of Parties of the UN Framework of Climate Change Convention took place from 29 November to 10 December 2010 in Cancun, Mexico. This was a significant milestone for Climate Change and for planning what happens after the first implementation phase of the Kyoto Protocol ends in 2012.

The members of the WAGGGS delegation ensured that the youth voice influenced decision-makers on climate change issues affecting girls and young women. Read the daily updates and find out about the YuFoGe action.

 

Young Women’s World Forum 2011The Young Women’s World Forum 2011 took from 19 to 26 March 2011 at the four World Centres simultaneously and is open to 20 to 30 year old young women from WAGGGS’ Member Organizations.  

The YWWF 2011 programme focused on the MDGs of “End poverty and hunger”, “Promote gender equality and empower women” and “Environmental sustainability”, topics selected in consultation with young women.

YWWF 2010- 21 OctoberAs part of the centenary celebrations, Girlguiding UK hosted the firstYoung Women’s World Forum (YWWF) in cooperation with WAGGGS in October 2010. The forum discussed issues that were relevant to young women from across the globe and focused on the Millennium Development Goals, including MDG 7 on environmental sustainability.

The WAGGGS delegation at the United Nations climate change conference (COP15) in December 2009 in Copenhagen had 23 delegates from 13 different countries. Find out how they helped to save our planet

At the TUNZA children and youth conference on environment around 1,000 young people from all around the world came together in August 2009 in South Korea. Representatives of the UN team New York have been taking part in the yearly sessions of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development which are held in April 2009. For several years now WAGGGS reps have been contributing to the Youth Caucus.

WAGGGS representatives at the UN and a Girl Scouts of the delegation, including young members and senior staff, attended the launch of the Paint for the Planet exhibition at the UN headquarters in New York in October 2008. The exhibition showcased the winners of an international drawing competition run by UNEP.
