Sunday 13 December

Today we learned about energy, met Princess Benedikte of Denmark, and welcomed the Scouts who arrived for the Climate Summit. This evening our WAGGGS working groups met to strategize how we will gain support for our key messages in the week ahead. We feel a combination of stress and excitement as we prepare for a productive week two at COP15 that will focus on gender issues.

Emily, Sarah, and Sara attended the Bright Green forum on green technology. At the forum they learned about companies that are leading the way in renewable energy sources.

In the afternoon, our whole delegation, along with the WOSM delegation, welcomed Princess Benedikte at the climate camp in Copenhagen. It was very impressive to see the power of Guides and Scouts come together to address the issue of climate change with one voice. We talked with one another about what we are doing in our own countries in response to climate change. Petina and Prisca represented the WAGGGS delegation in their speeches for Princess Benedikte who is very supportive of the Guides and Scouts. Prisca says:

It was an honor that Princess Benedikte, the Patron of the Olave Baden-Powell Society and of the Guides and Scouts, attended the Climate Summit.

This evening we joined the thirty participants in the Climate Summit for dinner and made new friends from all over the world who are involved in their communities in work related to climate change. We played some games and untangled the human knot. Afterwards, Sara, Rima, Emily, and Margrethe led St. Lucia songs in Swedish for the group with candles in the dark dining room.

We look forward to representing 10 million voices in our working groups related to youth, gender, and our own countries. We pace ourselves for a busy and important week in history.
